We're back! Kristian Fen is here!
Kristian Fen Overman-Smith arrived June 7, 2015 weighing 11.2 pounds and measuring 22.5 inches long. He arrived at 40 weeks, 4 days, after mama tried everything to get him to come earlier (eating dates, eggplant, pineapple, spicy food, scrubbing floors, and 4 sessions of induction acupuncture). An induction was scheduled for Monday, June 8th,but after a morning of walking at shelburne museum on Saturday the 6th, my water broke just before 2pm and we were off to the hospital to be checked (no real contractions yet). At the hospital we learned that I was already between 3 and 4 cm dilated. We decided to start pitocin and get the show on the road. The drip started at 4 pm and contractions were strong and close together by 5pm. By 9pm we were at 8cm and getting excited that it was progressing so quickly... And then we stalled here for about 3 hours. It was so intense that I requested an epidural- and the midwives finally agreed around midnight that it might help to relax to get to 10. Within 45 min of getting the epidural (amazing) I was at 10 and we then rested for an hour to let baby descend on his own before pushing. Finally, at 2am, I was able to push (favorite part) and an hour later Kristian was here!!
He had a bit of a rough start with low blood sugar levels requiring time on an IV in the NICU for about a day (common with big babies), and then we were told he also had an infection (sepsis) that required 7 full days of antibiotic treatment every 8 hours... So we stayed in the hospital and did the best we could! Finally we brought him home on Sunday, June 14...and celebrated!
Big brother Keats holding baby brother Kristian for the first time!
Sweet baby showing off one of his IV sites- he had it moved 5 times during our stay..

| A little pony riding... I think Mama wanted him to do this more than he did. He was a good sport, but it's probably the last year he'll agree to ride a pony! |
Waiting for the Charlotte Tractor Parade to start!!
Neen & Keats found this cozy spot to wait for the school bell to ring and the door to Ms. Bellavance's class to open! A little cold cement on the bottom, but protected from the wind.
Working on the fairy house project.
Waiting at the front door of fairy house number 34 1/2...
A wrap around porch, just like at Nayna & GP's house!
Fall is here!
One last visit to Shelburne Farms for this season!
And a hike to Lone Tree Hill!
Kindergarten Picture:
Halloween 2013!! Neen's costume making skills make up for Mama's no skills!
Happy puppy.
Summer Road Tripping.... part of the trip!
The Cuse!
Back in the hideout... doing some work.
No visit to Bloomington would be complete without a walk to the Village Deli!
Girls hike in Chesterton woods!
Exploring Granny & Gramps town of Louisville!
Hanging out at the mall on a hot Louisville day.
We did a lot more fun stuff on this trip.... more time with Granny & Gramps, the Crumpacker Great Tent Together, drove to Denver to visit Rob, Sara, Spencer, & Charlotte... drove to Michigan to visit Jeff & Q.... and drove to Canada (Wakamota Shores) to spend a week fishing with the Overmans..
